COMPANY PROFILE |
RTX Consumer Products heads for growth
Prior to the formation of the Hong Kong based RTX Consumer Products (RTX CP), the company had been known as DRS Electronics Ltd., a telecoms supplier. In 2006, DRS Electronics was acquired by RTX CP’s parent Danish company, RTX Telecom.
With a different set of toolings, the new company, RTX Consumer Products, switched its focus to consumer electronics, with a core focus OEM/ODM production, targeting international players in the industry, such as TDC and Telstra.
Currently, the key product range on offer is PABX handsets, where RTX CP can be considered a pioneer in the market. Last year RTX CP sold some 50,000~100,000 PABX handets to each of three or four big players, including NEC-Philips.
Internet & SIP handsets
RTX CP is also producing Internet phones and SIP protocol handsets. The company’s manufacturing facilities are located in China, in Shenzhen and Xiamen.
Today, RTX CP is a group solutions provider, with a strong engineering team able to respond to customers’ requirements. The engineering team has particular strengths in Bluetooth and DECT systems, as well as PABX related handsets.
RTX CP designs products that are differentiated in the market and offer added value for the customer. RTX CP’s products have the best sound quality, as well as color displays of extremely good quality. They are SIM-card compatible and handsets can have a detachable SIM card. They provide a flexible platform for Bluetooth technology.
Two representative products are the CT8010 and CT8030. The CT8010 is a mid-end PABX handset, while the CT8030 is a high end product.
Market positioning
According to Bilie Chan, sales and marketing manager at RTX CP, the company’s target markets are mainly corporate businesses. “Nowadays,” explained Chan, “we see the consumer market has declined, so the target market, the most profitable market is now corporate entities.” For this type of business, RTX CP can offer cooperative solutions that suit the requirements of the different companies and build a PABX into their system.
Product availability
This year RTX CP is continuing to offer PABX handset IP54. In addition, two new products, RTX 50 and RTX55 have now met approval requirements for dust, humidity and demanding industrial environments. At time of interview, RTX CP was expecting to announce these two new products at CeBIT Hannover, earlier this month.
Shipments
The PABX handsets targeting large corporates are typically shipping at around 3,000 units per month, with the minimum purchase being 10,000 units.
QA/QC
RTX CP has already acquired a number of industry certifications for QA/QC, imcluding CE and RoHS compliance. The company expects to secure ISO9001 certification by the end of this year.
This year, the company’s core stategy is to continue with PABX handsets for major corporate entities, and on this basis RTX CP expects to secure a 20% CAGR.
