Samsung unveils its first VoIP thin client monitor

Samsung Electronics America, a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Corporation, a world-leading manufacturer of professional LCD and PDP display products, has unveiled the new SyncMaster 220TN monitor, the company’s first V2oIP-enabled network monitor.
Due to its high-performance value coupled with its unique V2oIP capabilities, the SyncMaster 220TN monitor was named a 2008 CES Innovations Honoree. A selection of Samsung’s monitor lineup was on display during CES 2008 at the Samsung booth, #11033 in the Central Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center from January 7-10.
Featuring a built-in camera, microphone and speaker, the SyncMaster 220TN monitor facilitates true-to-life web conferencing, which can reduce long-distance phone costs and the need for frequent business travel.
With a 22” wide screen and a 2.0M pixel camera, the 220TN monitor is enabled to support multiple work applications, therefore enhancing productivity in a range of professional settings.
The 220TN monitor is a thin client solution, or a centrally-managed network computer that lacks a hard-disk drive. Leveraging a thin client system, the monitor not only facilitates streamlined communication----it also facilitates increased security, since no application data resides in the actual model.
On account of its thin client capabilities, the 220TN is an ideal choice for applications that require secure deployment, such as airport kiosks, hotel lobbies and hospitals.
“In an increasingly globalized workforce, many professionals require a simplified, cost-effective, yet reliable, medium for communicating with co-workers and clients across the globe,” said Young Bae, senior product marketing manager, display products. “With the SyncMaster 220TN monitor, Samsung has delivered a streamlined, intuitive solution for enterprise customers that demand a seamless and secure communication experience, whether communicating across cubicles or across continents.”
With a high resolution of 1680 x 1050, coupled with a wide 16:10 aspect ratio, the SyncMaster 220TN monitor offers superior image quality and enhanced productivity for a range of professional applications.
Featuring a 5 ms GTG response time, a 700:1 contrast ratio and 300cd/m2 brightness, the model is equipped to produce crisp, true-to-life images, while the wide 170/160 viewing angle further enhances the overall viewing experience. The monitor also incorporates dual inputs for DVI-D and analog. The SyncMaster 220TN monitor is priced at $1249 MSRP. The monitor is currently available at a variety of retail outlets and through Samsung resellers and distribution channels, which can be located by calling 1-800-SAMSUNG or by visiting www. samsung.com. Sumitomo Electric Industries launches DWDM SFP transceivers

Sumitomo Electric Industries launched newly industry-leading dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) small form factor pluggable (SFP) transceivers. Network infrastructures and the applications they carry such as VoIP and IPTV continue to drive increased bandwidth. So does the capital investment of service providers to upgrade their systems. DWDM is an attractive technology for increasing capacity and enables system developers to provide increased bandwidth serving multiple applications in the Long Haul and Metro at lower costs.
The new DWDM SFP, SCP9FB8 series, is designed to support 3200ps/nm and a distance of 160km by adapting the Laser Driver with low chirp characteristics and optimizing the drive current. Previous 160km transmission dispersion tolerance was 2400ps/nm. The conventional models can be deployed in data links with spans of up to 120km.
“Considering the WDM technology has been eroding in Metro area from Long-haul, expansion of distance is the key to fulfill the customer demand.” said Ichiro Kono, general manager of SEI’s Optical Transmission Components Division. “SEI is not the leading company at Long-Haul market but these products should expand our business opportunities.”
