Realtek delivers ALC880 high-definition Audio Codec

Realtek Semiconductor Corp. has introduced the ALC880 High Definition Audio Codec, which features Intel's next-generation audio standard, High-definition Audio, aka Azalia. This codec incorporates an 8-channel DAC, plus three pairs of stereo ADCs, supporting 16/20/24-bit PCM audio for 7.1 audio solutions.

The front DAC supports a sampling rate of up to 192KHz, and the ALC880 is suitable for 2-channel 192KHz and 6-channel 96KHz DVD-Audio solutions. A multi-streaming function supports two inputs and two outputs simultaneously. Input enhancement includes Echo Cancellation, Beam Forming, and Noise Suppression.

This codec also supports Dolby Digital Surround EX 7.1-channel playback and is available in a 48-pin LQFP package. It is backwards compatible with AC'97.

Realtek is also offering a PCI-Express Gigabit Ethernet single-chip controller RTL8168), combining a triple-speed IEEE 802.3 compliant Media Access Controller (MAC) with a triple-speed Ethernet transceiver, PCI Express bus controller, and embedded memory.

This integrated device supports the PCI Express bus interface for host communications with power management and is compliant with the IEEE 802.3 specification for 10/100Mbps Ethernet and the IEEE 802.3ab specification for 1000Mbps Ethernet.

The RTL8168 is appropriate for multiple market segments and emerging applications, such as desktop, mobile, workstation, server, communications platforms and embedded applications.
