We were very impressed with ProSense's combination of ex-tra technology in a PDA unit. The PS-168 is an innovative and compact design, combining GPS and MP3 with a PDA. Prosense has delivered a PDA with multiple functions for the convenience of users. It functions as a navigator while in the car and as a PDA when outside the car.
The list of functions that can be carried out by the PS-168 is quite extensive. Firstly there is a global positioning system with e-map. Then there is a personal information manager which is able to synchronize with Outlook, and which includes a schedule, an address book, a note book, a to do list, expense manager, and e-mail. On-board applications include a free to go service, an e-book, an e-dictionary, a paintbrush, a calculator, a recorder, a clock, unit conversion, and a music master. The device also has games, including Snake, Puzzle, Submarine, Land Mine, Rubiks Cube, and Magician. Management tools include a file manager, a system manager, and data synchronization.
In addition to the many functions listed, the PS-168 also features a real-time OS with a user-friendly interface. It displays 256 colors in 240 x 320 pixel resolution on its LCD. The GPS receiver is built-in, and both English and Chinese handwriting and soft keyboard input are available. The versatile communication interface includes IrDa, USB and RS232. A hot-sync function allows users to maintain the newest data. A built-in CompactFlash card interface can also be used as a card reader. The device comes with 16MB of SDRAM, 8MB of Mask ROM, and 2MB of flash memory so that users can run more application programs at the same time. The 1000mAH lithium rechargeable battery can be replaced by a spare one.
Based on a 66MHz ARM7 system-on-a-chip, the PS-168 measures just 133 x 83 x 21mm, and weighs only 230g. The company currently has a fully working traditional Chinese version of the product, but is very interested in working with partners to provide other language versions. The PDA device itself is also produced by ProSense and is not sourced from a third party.
