Eurotrade's Best of Taiwan's Best awards returned home in June for Asia's largest IT trade show, Computex Taipei 2002. With so many local companies attending the event, the number of entries was higher than ever, and the decision process even more difficult. We have selected winners in the burning areas of the industry, such as rugged IA devices, broadband networking and gigabit implementation, but we also chose some useful tools for professionals in the office and on the road. Each of the eleven winners is detailed in the following reports.
The scheme
Eurotrade's Best of Taiwan's Best awards are presented annually at CeBIT, Computex Taipei and Comdex Fall. The first round of awards was presented at Comdex Fall 1998. Taiwan is the number 4 IT manufacturer in the world, and the Eurotrade editorial team - native English speakers with years of experience in journalism and the IT industry - is based in Taipei, right at the heart of Greater China manufacturing region. We inaugurated the award scheme to recognize the amazing contribution that this small island of 23 million people makes to the world IT industry and to give credit where credit is due.
Invitations to the awards are sent out 6 to 8 weeks before each show. The editors meet to shortlist finalists, who are then invited to provide products for testing or give a demonstration of their operation. The editors score finalists according to pre-determined criteria, and then finalize the winners in the week preceding each show. To date over 50 categories and over 100 companies have been awarded.
Each winner is presented with a certificate during the show and a special display plaque for their headquarters. After the show Eurotrade includes a report on each product, which is what follows, and supplies a copy of the logo for winners to use in their advertising.
When you see the Eurotrade Best of Taiwan's Best logo, you can be sure that the product is one of the best you will be able to source from Taiwan.
The next round of the Best of Taiwan's Best awards will take place at Comdex Fall in Las Vegas in November. The gambling paradise in the desert is always the place to show off more consumer-oriented products. This year we are inviting entries in the following categories:
1. PDAs
2. PDA Accessories
3. Wireless add-ons
4. One-step Networking
5. Bluetooth Products
6. Tablet PCs
7. Keyring Data Storage Devices
There may be more than one winner in each category depending on the functionality and target market of each entry.
Please send information to bill@etmag.com by 6 p.m. on Friday October 18th 2002. We will contact you later if you have been short-listed for an award. Thank you for taking part, and good luck!
